Platypus kill likely to go unpunished

(From thedaily.com.au) Australia – A sickening act of illegal netting at Obi Obi Creek near Kenilworth that killed a platypus and a rare lung fish will likely go unpunished. The Environmental Protection Agency said yesterday it was unlikely the culprit or culprits would be found. The Daily revealed that a gillnet had been strung across the creek 200 metres from the mouth.

Disturbing photos supplied to the Daily showed the platypus entangled in the net, while scores of other fish were also killed.

“It killed just about everything that came across it,” said John, who stumbled upon the ghastly scene at the platypus habitat while kayaking on October 3.
