Two species of dolphins brutally captured and slaughtered in Taiji’s hunt

After a few days of blue cove, today, not one, but two pods were driven into the cove. Dolphin Project Cove Monitors noted the familiar black smoke as a pod of dolphins was being chased.

10 Risso’s Dolphins (Grampus griseus) were slaughtered while one small juvenile was dumped at sea.

Without the care of its pod and mother this juvenile will likely not survive.

Several hundred Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) were driven towards the cove.

Most were lost and the remaining 46 were quickly netted into the cove.

Four were taken into captivity, while the remaining 42 were slaughtered.

Be a voice for the voiceless: TAKE ACTION

“Much of the violence comes from the drive itself, where some dolphins don’t even make it to the cove. The hunts are so stressful that pregnant females can abort their calves and young and old can’t always keep up the fast pace.”

– Ric O’Barry, Founder and Director of Dolphin Project.
