Sea turtle butchered on Qld beach

(From brisbanetimes.com.au) Queensland, Australia- The RSPCA is calling for witnesses to the killing and butchery of a large sea turtle north of Brisbane, last week to come forward. The animal protection agency receipted a complaint last weekend that a group of adults and children dragged the animal out of the beach at Deception Bay and butchered it at a nearby property with the intent of selling its shell on internet trading website e-bay.

The meat from the animal was allegedly fed to dogs. Anybody with information about the killing is urged to contact the RSPCA or the EPA on their animal cruelty hotline 1300 852 188.

“Certain species can be taken under local laws for traditional hunting purposes…in this instance we don’t believe this is the case. The people we are looking at are not indigenous people,” he said.
