Risso’s dolphin suffering continues in The Cove

Less than an hour after leaving the harbor to search for dolphins the hunters had a small pod of Risso’s dolphins netted in the cove.

Trainers appeared however no dolphins were selected for captivity. Not sought after by marine parks like bottlenose dolphins, the entire pod of 6 dolphins was slaughtered for meat.

Once at the butcher house these poor souls are carved up for local buyers who sell the toxic mercury laced meat to buyers locally and online.

Because the process is being repeated every year, entire communities of migratory dolphins along the coast of japan are being destroyed.

Dolphihn Project’s Cove Monitors are on the ground in Taiji, documenting the dolphin hunt season that opened on September 1, and is expected to continue until the end of February.

There are lots of things that people can do to help end the slaughter of dolphins in Japan.
