Marine Reserve: Recovering Seabed Project

(Sitges, Barcelona – Spain) The images shown are from a voluntary act promoted by the organization Acció Natura, which proposed 3 years ago creating a marine reserve in an area decided on the Sitges coast, in Spain

Furthermore, the project is also intended to build an artificial breakwater on the seabed, which would cost nearly a million Euros to create new ecosystems in the area and reproduction of marine species. It is estimated that, once installed cement blocks on the seabed, within 5 years could be demonstrated the environmental benefit.

The immersion took place a mile and a half from the coast, about 12 to 15 meters deep, enough to find all kinds of waste, the vast majority from fishing boats.

Ropes, nets, bottles, plastic bags, lighters amongst others are placed freely on the seabed, abandoned to their fate in the hands of more dangerous creature on Earth, Human. A large dose of awareness and respect for the planet is what the human beings needs.

The following images show what can be picked up on the seabed in just one hour per 15 people.
