An internal government memo suggests that the federal government has no plans to ban imports of cat and dog fur.
The memo shows that some government officials pushed Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz not to ban the fur imports, fearing it could undermine support for the seal hunt.
The memo, obtained by the Canadian Press, says ‘a ban could have implications for the farmed fur industry in Canada and for Canada’s position against the banning of Canadian seal products by other countries.’
