New turtle trail at fishing pond

(From newsday.co.tt)- Some of Trinidad and Tobago’s beaches have been an important nesting area for many species of turtles such as the Leatherback, Loggerhead, Olive Riddley, Green and Hawksbill.  However, due to marine by-catch, slaughter for meat, illegal poaching of eggs, natural predation on eggs and hatchlings, habitat change and destruction and trade of marine turtle products they need to be protected. This is why the Turtle Village Trust (TVT) was established. The TVT seeks to develop a ten- year research plan which will be implemented by their partner communities and may include protection and management of key habitats, monitoring of important nesting sites, understanding annual population trends, development and enforcement of stronger conservation and protection laws.

Fishing Pond is a small rural coastal village, found directly east of Sangre Grande.  “Environment, conserving and protecting it; entrepreneurship, promoting young business and education, with education, the people in the villages become more and more educated.”
