National Parks Seeks to Consolidate Mission

(From journalcr.com) Costa Rica-  Las Baulas is located some 274 km northwest of San Jose, and it’s considered the most important leatherback nesting site remaining in the eastern Pacific Ocean, as this species is in critical danger of extinction. Just like leatherback turtles, many other species living in Costa Rica’s parks have been historical threatened, whether by illegal hunting or climate change. Despite the fact that there aren’t enough resources and personnel to carry strict surveillance inside the national parks, and although human activity continues to impact climate change, Costa Rica’s protected areas system seeks to improve in fighting these trends.
