Human Activity Takes Dangerous Toll on Oceans’ Health

(From tennessean.com) – Fifty years ago, no one thought that oceans would ever be affected by what people were putting into the water and taking out of it. People used to think that because oceans were so big and so powerful, they could do anything to them and the great waters would endure. But ocean health is declining.

Pollution clogs its arteries, overfishing depletes big fish and throws marine ecosystems off balance, global warming raises sea temperatures and affects fish populations, coral is bleached and destroyed, and the ocean’s pH balance is turning more acidic.

If business goes on as usual, the ocean is in big trouble, and so is the planet. “Helping people understand the ocean is important to planetary well-being”.
