Fish Shortage Driving Dolphins to Seek Food in Nets

(From cyprus-mail.com) – A lack of fish in the seas is forcing dolphins to feed from nets. On Thursday, a large dolphin was caught in fishermen’s nets off the coast of Zygi and died trying to free itself. Various fishing methods and the use of drift and gill nets, result in dolphins being killed inadvertently around the world.

“In the Mediterranean, fishing over-exploitation has led to a reduction of food in the eco-system of the dolphins, meaning that they are forced to get food from nets, as it is an easy alternative.”
