Dead Fish Wash Up On Durban Beach

(From news24.com)- Scores of dead and dying fish littered the surface of the Durban”s Isipingo River lagoon on Thursday after large volumes sewage poured into rivers.

The deaths were linked to the theft of scrap metal from an electricity pylon that subsequently toppled over and cut power to several industries in parts of south Durban. With no electricity to drive several sewage pump stations large volumes of sewage and industrial effluent poured into rivers that drained into the Isipingo estuary. The deaths seemed to be as a result of a lack of oxygen.
