(From wciv.com) Folly Beach, South Carolina- A dead whale that washed up on Folly Beach Friday may give scientists a rare look into the ocean”s ecosystem. The pygmy sperm whale is the second of its kind to wash ashore in the area this week. Along the Southeast, it is the seventh in the past week. Scientists can’t say if that’s normal or not, because the number of stranded whales varies significantly. They also hope to find out more about this species, and dangers they face created by humans. It’s too soon to tell what killed this whale, but it could be heart disease or plastic ingestion.
