(From sunstkitts.com)- The St. Kitts/Nevis Monitoring Network, co-ordinator, Dr. Kimberly Stewart revealed that accidental capture is one of the major factors that has been responsible for the endangerment of the turtle population in St. Kitts/Nevis. Dr. Stewart praised the Federation for being very fortunate to have three species of turtles, namely Leatherback, Hawksbill and Greens. Dr. Stewart explained that the sea creatures often get trapped in fishermen’s net catch. The turtles are also threatened by manmade provocation like sand mining and development. Also, the sea lines and habitat degradation have been affecting the turtles’ wildlife.
