Sea Shepherd in the Galapagos

Since 2000, Sea Shepherd has maintained a strong, positive presence in the Galapagos Islands. From patroling the Marine Reserve stopping illegal fishing activities, to busting shark finners, to educating the local youth, Sea Shepherd carries out its mission of promoting ocean conservation using a wide range of methods and actions. The Galapagos is our line in the sand. If humanity cannot protect such a unique and diverse ecosystem, we will not be able to protect any ecosystem. The Galapagos is a challenge and battlefield for the effort to halt human greed and destruction. These Enchanted Isles are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and this means all of us have a responsibility to help protect them from illegal exploitation.

Warning to Sharks: Humans Are Dangerous! PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 16 June 2009 23:06

In order to spread an environmental message, Saatchi & Saatchi South Africa has created a nice ambient marketing campaign. The agency stuck stickers on the inside of a shark tank at an aquarium. The visitors could only see the back of the stickers, making it seem as if the warning on them was for the sharks.

The operation was created for Save Our Seas, its goal being to remind us that human actions (mostly the practice of shark finning) contribute greatly the gradual disappearance of this species.

This advertisement plays on the irrational fears that many people have of sharks. On average, only 4 people a year are attacked by sharks, which pales in comparison to the 100 million sharks that are killed by humans each year.... Save Our Seas has managed to spread this message in an original and ironic way.

The message: Warning- Predators Beyond This Point
