There is a very dangerous game being played at the Niagara Fallsview Casino that many people in the Niagara region are unaware of. It's not slots, blackjack or poker; this game is being played with our oceans. Shark fin soup, the end result of catching sharks and tonnes of other sea creatures in long lines, finning them while alive and then throwing the still-alive carcass back into the ocean to helplessly to sink and be eaten alive, can be found in 11 different forms on the menu at a restaurant in the Niagara Fallsview Casino.
The demand for shark fins has driven shark populations to unsustainable levels and is wreaking extreme havoc on our marine ecosystems.
As apex predators, sharks play a crucial role in our oceans and their importance far outweighs an unnecessary delicacy. Please, stop gambling with our oceans! (From stcatharinesstandard.ca, by Dylan Powell)
