©hs.fiThe mild early winter could make it more difficult for the Saimaa ringed seal to build nests in the snow on lake ice, says biologist Tero Sipilä of Metsähallitus, the official body that administers state-owned land in Finland.

The endangered seals, which live in the lakes of the Saimaa waterway, generally have their young in late February in nests scooped out snowdrifts on the ice near rocky islands... Source
