Feds investigate shooting deaths of sea lions, seal PDF Print E-mail

The carcasses of at least four sea lions and one seal have been found in West Seattle, and all were shot.

Agents with NOAA fisheries are investigating. And there may be more dead animals, said Brian Gorman, spokesman for the federal agency.

The animals are protected by federal law and shooting them could bring a civil fine of up to $50,000, Gorman said. The dead animals are three California sea lions -- the most common species of sea lion in Puget Sound -- one harbor seal and one Steller sea lion. Steller sea lions are also listed under the Engangered Species Act, so killing one could bring additional penalties.... Read Full Article
