Swan River dolphins in danger of 'dying out', say researchers PDF Print E-mail

SWAN RIVER ICON: Dolphins have been found dead from suspected contamination. Picture: Murdoch UniversityPerth's Swan River dolphins are in danger of dying out with at least six dead in eight months, some from a suspected contamination by a banned pesticide.

A team of researchers from Murdoch University have carried out post mortems on four of the bottle nose dolphins.

Some of the infected bodies found were covered by severe skin lesions.

“The concentrations of dieldrin reported were considerably elevated and compare to some of the highest levels reported globally in marine mammals at the present time,” said Murdoch University biologist Hugh Finn... Read Full Article by Aaron Fernandes
